"Feed me Symour" - Little White House of Horrors

Who doesn’t remember the 1960 film, “Little shop of Horrors”? The line went like this, “Feed me Seymour. Feed me all night long. 'Cuz if you feed me Seymour, I can grow up big and strong”. That sounds like Washington doesn’t it? More about that in a moment. First let me tell you about the plot of the movie.

The story line went like this. Seymour Krelborn (Rick Moranis) a young assistant in a florist shop discovers a mysterious new plant in the back room. Seymour notices that the plant is wilting from lack of food. It refuses to eat anything normal plants would feed on, such as water, sunlight and soil. Seymour accidentally cuts his finger and makes the discovery that the plant has an appetite for human blood. As the plant thrives, success seems to come and the business booms at the previously failing flower shop. Seymour becomes a celebrity, but he is very weak because the plant needs more and more of his blood every day. Eventually, the now huge plant begins to talk to Seymour, demanding more blood than Seymour can give, while offering more fortune and fame in return. Seymour's fortune continues but he is very worried about the plants growth and insatiable appetite. Seymour confronts and fights the gigantic plant, which by now has little offspring. The plant actually has a deeper agenda and turns on Seymour to destroy him. Now let’s bring this story home. The government is an animal whose only diet is rights and liberties. The more you feed the government, the more it grows. The bigger the government, the more rights it must consume to exist and maintain its strength. Soon it becomes a power unto itself, totally disregarding its intended purpose, which is to serve the needs and conscience of the people. It will by nature become all consuming and ever increasing. If left to its self, its roots will filter into every part of your life and become god-like, rather than the servant that it was created to be.

The liberal politicians who survive by making government grow, along with special interest groups and bureaucrats are the feeders of this monster. They work within the system and manipulate their own agenda. Their solution to any problem is, “The government needs more control.” They truly believe that you don’t know how to take care of yourself or your families. You don’t know what is good for your businesses or communities. Just feed the animal. A little more government control here, a little there. They eventually consume your rights and liberties until the seed of big government becomes an oak. Thomas Jefferson said it best, “The best government governs least.”
